Firm History

The law firm of Curtis, Curtis and Brelinski, P.C. traces its roots back to 1901, when former Jackson County Probate Court Judge George H. Curtis opened his law office in the Dwight Building in downtown Jackson, Michigan. Judge Curtis's son, Robert N. Curtis later joined his father's law practice, and in 1970, the firm added a third generation when Robert's son Philip J. Curtis joined the family firm. Phil Curtis currently serves as its managing partner. A fourth generation lawyer, Philip C. Curtis, currently operates his own legal practice in a suite within our office building.

Over the past 120+ years, the name of the firm has changed from time to time as partners have retired or moved on to other career opportunities. Past lawyers of the firm include a former Jackson County Probate Court judge, former Jackson County District Court judge, the Jackson County prosecutor, and local businesspersons who left the practice of law to pursue careers in industry, some of whom still use the firm today as outside general counsel to their companies.

While the name has changed, our commitment has not — putting clients first, always. We continue to believe the best approach to the practice of law is remaining small in order to provide personal attention to each and every client and their important legal matters.

We currently have three full-time attorneys - Philip J. Curtis, Brad A. Brelinski, and Jeff Landon - with over 80 years of combined legal practice in the State of Michigan, and three legal support staff members with over 70 years of collective experience.

For seven decades, our firm has been located on the 15th floor of the historic Jackson County Tower Building in downtown Jackson, Michigan. The Albert Kahn-designed building opened in 1929 as the Union & Peoples National Bank Building. It was later known as the National Bank of Jackson Building, before the County of Jackson assumed ownership in 1975. It was and still remains the tallest building in downtown Jackson.
